Senior Management Team
Michael joined Abacus in 2006 and was promoted to Senior Manager in 2011. In July 2016, Michael was appointed Director of Abacus Michael currently has overall responsibility for the advice, establishment and administration of personal and corporate structures.
In 1997, Michael, was awarded a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Business with Economics from the University of Hertfordshire.
Michael became a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners in 2011 and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.
Family Office Services
Tanya joined Abacus in 1998 and was appointed Senior Manager in 2011 for the Family Services Section.
During her time with the firm Tanya has worked with many high-net worth clients in the field of trust and company administration, in particular dealing with private clients. This has included setting up and managing company and trust structures for wealth management, tax and succession planning and purposes. Tanya has also been closely involved in promoting and developing the firm’s services.
For several years now, Tanya has lead a team which provides Family Office facilities to ultra-high net worth individuals, involving a wide range of services based on complex structures, which may include limited companies, private trust companies and purpose trusts. She also continues to advise generally in relation to the setting up and management of private corporate structures.
Tanya graduated in Leeds Metropolitan University obtaining a B.Sc in Psychology. She became a member of the Institute of Financial Services in 2000 and is a Trust and Estate Practitioner.
Ivan joined the firm in 1995. He is the firm’s Compliance Officer and Money Laundering Officer.
Ivan has over 35 years’ experience in the areas of trust and administration, company management, banking and investment services, having worked within the financial services industry in Gibraltar since 1980.
Between 2009 – 2012, Ivan served as Chairman of the Gibraltar Association of Compliance Officers (GACO), having previously been the Chairman of GACO’s Fiduciary Sub Committee.
Brenda provides legal counsel services for the firm and advises the firm on a wide range of company and trust matters, corporate and financial restructuring as well as on regulatory issues, contract and employment law. Brenda joined the firm in 2005.
Senior Manager / Accounts Team
Natalie joined Abacus as an Assistant Manager in October 2011 and has developed throughout her time with the company to become Senior Manager of the Client accounting team.
Natalie moved to Gibraltar from the UK in August 2004, where she obtained a B.A (Hons) degree in Accounting and Finance from Kingston University. Prior to joining Abacus, Natalie spent seven years working in the audit department of a top four practice firm where she became a full member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
Joanne joined Abacus as a Manager in 2014 and was promoted to Senior Manager in July 2016.
Having graduated from Cardiff University with a B.Sc (Hons) degree in Business Administration and French in 2001, she has 15 years’ experience in the financial services industry, 8 of which were spent working as a Financial Adviser for Lloyds Bank in the UK. In 2006 she was approved by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) to perform a controlled function as a trainee Investment Adviser and, after intensive training was awarded Competent Adviser Status in line with FSA requirements in 2007.
Relocating back to Gibraltar in 2013, she joined Totus Consulting Limited, and took the opportunity to extend her financial knowledge to the offshore financial services industry, including QROPS, QNUPS, international pensions and offshore life bonds, amongst other products and international structures.
Joanne is full qualified to UK RDR standards, having successfully completed the Level 4 diploma of Financial Advisers in 2011. Although not acting in an advisory capacity in this role at Abacus, it does mean she is well placed to understand the technical aspects of pension and investment advice, application and administration. She can add value to the supervision and review of the financial advice procured and will be a member of the Investment Committee, assisting the trustees and the pension team in the competent and successful delivery of this pension service.
Joanne has also obtained the Chartered Insurance Institute Pensions Administration exame.
In-house Legal Counsel
Since joining Abacus in 2013, Nadine has been the firm’s In-House Legal Counsel and has advised the board of directors, assisting also with the drafting of relevant documentation.
Additionally, she has advised the board on matters pertaining to internal governance and employment policies as well as the assessment of risk factors regarding business decisions and operations, offering proactive advice on potential legal issues. She has been a member of various internal committees and is a member of the Senior Management team of the firm. During her time with Abacus, Nadine has worked closely with various members of the firm to provide clarification on legal language or specifications and liaised with external parties such as regulators, external counsel and service providers on the firm’s behalf.
Melissa Victory Peñalver
Melissa joined Abacus in April 2000 and has recently been appointed Senior Manager of the firm’s corporate and private Russian clients.
Chris joined Abacus in 2016 and is the firm’s in-house IT specialist. Chris is a very experienced IT professional with 20 years of experience in this field.
